Description

redCOOKIE is a Joomla plugin that helps you to comply with the European Union Directive 2009/136/EC which requires users to consent before web sites harvest data from them.

If your website uses so-called cookies, you are subject to the cookie law. This means in practical terms two things:

Modify the Text to be displayed in the Cookie Info box

The text fields need to be filled with the cookie law requirements that you will show in your website. See the following example:

Creating a Cookies Policy Joomla Content Article

Red Cookie allows you create a link to your Cookies Policy Joomla article:

Cookie-policy-link.jpg

Before setting this option in redCOOKIE configuration you need to create the Joomla Content Article that contains the full text of your cookie policy.

To create the Joomla Article go to the top menu: Content -> Article Manager -> Add new article

Fill the article title and article content fields then click Save and Close:

Once the article is ready we need a menu item that links to the article. Go to Menu -> Main menu (or your favourite menu) -> Add New Menu Item:

redCOOKIE 1.1 offers tree different appearances. Switch between them changing the selected option in the Appearance Field:

The Left Slider version has a special configuration parameter:

Thus, when Left Slider appearance is selected you can switch the colours of the Cookies Text:

Load JQuery

JQuery is the Javascript library that allow redCOOKIE to work. By default JQuery is added by the redCOOKIE plugin. However, depending on your Joomla Template you may have a JQuery version already loaded in your system.

We recommend you to switch this option to NO and check if your redCOOKIE continues working. If it works we recommend to keep this option as "no" that will increase the performance of your site and will avoid conflicts.

Customize the output (Plugin override)

To override the output of redCOOKIE plugin in your template:

create a folder named "templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/plg_system_redcookie/" and copy the original layout files at plugins/system/redcookie/tmpl/* to this new folder. Now you can modify the output of any of the available templates: beam.php, box.php or tab.php

Is important to note that to build the override layout you need to create it in this path: templates/TEMPLATE-NAME/html/plg_PLUGIN-GROUP_PLUGIN-NAME/ example: templates/beez3/html/plg_content_pagenavigation/ Where PLUGIN-GROUP is the group to which the plugin belongs (is the name of the first folder where the plugin is located, see: https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/tree/staging/plugins, read more about Event groups at http://docs.joomla.org/Plugin/Events )

Remove the Plugin Cookie

Once you click accept in the redCOOKIE Info Box the message disappears. If you want to see the message again you will have to remove the cookies in your browser. The easiest way to do it is to go to your Browser Preferences (at the privacy section) and remove all the cookies.
