Download the latest copy of redLIST from the Downloads section of the redCOMPONENT site.
Once you have the appropriate version, install the component as you would any other Joomla! extension; visit the Install/Uninstall page in 1.5 or the Extension Manager in 2.5, select the package using the "Browse" button, and click on Upload. A notification will appear to indicate that redLIST and the redLIST content plug-in have been installed successfully.
Open up redLIST by clicking on Components -> redLIST. The "redLIST" main menu screen will appear, displaying buttons and submenu links to the various sections of redLIST's backend. Also displayed is a "Statistics" module that provides an overview of the total number of items, categories and fields and a breakdown of how many are published.
Before proceeding, it is recommended at this point to visit redLIST's "Settings" page. Here is where the Google maps integration can be set up. There is a space to enter the Google maps API key and a "Request Key" link that will lead administrators to Google's API sign-up page. Note that this key must be in place for redLIST's Google maps feature to work.
You can alter the dimensions of the Google maps that are displayed on the "Address Map" and "Category Map" menu item pages, as well as define the map center (long and lat co-ordinates), starting zoom level. You can also enable "icon clustering" which, when zoomed out at a certain distance, will display a single pin icon to represent a collection of closely clustered pins on the Google Map rather than a bunch of them.
Acquiring your Google Maps API Key
Click on the "Request" Key link to bring up Google's API sign-up page in a new window. The instructions to follow will be displayed. (Note: you will need a Google account in order to proceed with the next step, you can easily create one from this page.)
Scroll down the list of Google APIs available to your account and locate the "Google Map API" switches. Toggle "on" the API v2 (or v3) button; if you do not yet have an API key you will be redirected to the screen which displays the unique key for your account.
