Installing and managing Shipping Method Plugins

RedSHOP - Shipping Method Installation.png

Shipping method plug-ins designed for redSHOP are packaged as normal Joomla! extensions, and as such are installed in the standard way that you would install any Joomla! extension: by heading over to Joomla!'s extension manager.

You can either head there directly when you want to install a shipping method plug-in, or if you are working within redSHOP you can use a shortcut link to get the extension manager; click on the "shipping detail" button within redSHOP's main menu, or click on the Add Shipping Method link in the shipping detail section of the left-hand navigation panel. On the extension manager screen, browse your computer for the package with the shipping plug-in of your choice, then click on the upload button to install the plug-in where shortly after you will be notified of the successful installation.

Managing Shipping Methods

There are two areas in which you can manage the shipping plug-ins that have been installed:

Any changes you make to the published state or to the order that plug-ins are arranged will be reflected in both areas, however to access additional configuration settings specific to the carrier, you must view the plug-ins details from within the Shipping Methods listing screen.

Shipping Methods Listing screen

Fields:
Shipping Method Name - the label currently given to the shipping method option that can be offered to the customer, as it will appear in the shipping method section of the checkout process
Plugin - the name given to the plug-in for redSHOP's reference during the checkout process
Version - the version of the plug-in currently installed
Order - the order in which shipping method options will be displayed to the customer during the checkout process
Publish - sets whether the shipping method is available for the customer to select during the checkout process

Actions:
Edit - takes you to the shipping method details screen where you can modify the parameters of the shipping plugin. The screen can be reached either by clicking on the name of the shipping method or clicking on the checkbox next to their name followed by the edit button
Publish - lets you set shipping method options to be available for selection on the front-end in batch, with either single or multiple product records selected for publishing
Unpublish - lets you set shipping method options to be hidden from the front-end in batch, with either single or multiple product records selected for unpublishing

Shipping Method Details screen

"Details" tab:
Shipping Method Name - sets the label currently given to the shipping method option that can be offered to the customer, as it will appear in the shipping method section of the checkout process
Shipping Class - the name given to the plug-in for redSHOP's reference during the checkout process
Published - sets whether the shipping method is available for the customer to select during the checkout process (Available options: Yes, No)

"Configuration" tab:
While every shipping method plug-in will feature a configuration tab, not every plug-in will have extra settings appear in it. Plug-ins for international couriers will have additional options specific to their services that must be configured for redSHOP to establish a connection successfully with their system, but for plug-ins such as "Self pickup", "Shipper" and "Default shipping", there are no additional options required to fill; instead there is an additional button that appears in each where you can define specific custom shipping rates or locations.

Actions:
Shipping Rates - redirects to the shipping rates management section; this button appears when viewing the details of the "Default shipping" and "Self pickup" plug-ins
Shipping Locations - redirects the shipping location management section; this button appears when viewing the details of the "Shipper" plug-in
Apply - saves any changes made and refreshes the page
Save - saves any changes made and redirects to the listing screen
Cancel - returns to the listing screen without saving any changes
